We’re happy to announce Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is now available to buy and sell with Luno in Malaysia 🥳
Here’s what it is, why you should care, and how you can get it.
Where did Bitcoin Cash come from?
In 2017, Bitcoin saw a huge spike in popularity. This was too much for the network and it started to see longer transaction times than people would have liked. This restricted its use as a way of paying for things in everyday life.
There were several solutions offered. One faction, made up of primarily Bitcoin miners and advocates like Roger Ver, thought the solution was to first increase the block size from 1MB to 8MB and then again later to 32MB. The idea was this would allow more transactions to be processed per block and speed things up a bit.
This faction lost the argument, with others believing that the larger block size would mean weaker security for Bitcoin. They decided to leave with a hard fork and Bitcoin Cash was created, with its own blockchain and larger block size.
Should I buy it?
Like pancakes and waffles, Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash share many ingredients but differ in a few key technical ways – the main difference, of course, being block size. The real difference between the two, however, is more to do with philosophy than technology.
The Bitcoin community prioritise being censorship-resistant, decentralised, permissionless, and trustless. The Bitcoin Cash community’s view is that consumer mass adoption of Bitcoin takes precedence over decentralisation.
