This feature is available to Luno users worldwide, except in the United States. If you are a resident of our presence countries, you should instead, fund your account directly with bank deposits and buy Bitcoin via our Instant Buy / Sell option or our exchange.
To buy Bitcoin with your credit card, all you need to do is enter your credit card details and the amount of Bitcoin you wish to purchase in USD and in a few minutes, the transaction will be processed. A minimum of 50 USD can be bought at a time. It can take up to 12 hours for you to receive the Bitcoin.
If you purchase Bitcoin with your credit card, you can safely store, spend or send it elsewhere. However, we/Simplex can't support the selling of Bitcoin that was bought with a credit card. We are working on solutions to enable customers to sell their card-purchased Bitcoin using Luno.
In order to use this feature, you need to:
Have a Luno account
Verify your phone number
Provide your name in your account
Own a credit card that can be used to purchase internationally in USD
Provide personal information to Simplex
Please note that Simplex charges a fee for credit card transactions.
Here is how to buy Bitcoin with credit card:
In your wallet, click on “buy Bitcoin” on the card “Buy Bitcoin with credit card”
Confirm the amount you want to buy in USD
You’ll see the purchase details displayed (exchange rate, cost, fee)
Click “continue to Simplex” to complete the transaction
Fill out personal information
Enter your credit card details
Follow the Simplex instructions
The Bitcoin will be added to your Luno account after the transaction has been completed.
Due to security checks, the first time you use your credit card it can take up to 24 hours until the Bitcoin clear in your account.
Note that we have seen some credit cards being rejected while going through the process. This is usually due to your bank not approving the payment. In such cases, we would urge you to try another credit card if possible and make sure it is a reputed international credit card.
