This security feature ensures you have greater control over your Luno send transactions.
We are rolling this feature out in stages to ensure we provide all customers with the highest level of security while maintaining an awesome customer experience.
When you sign in from a new device (see “What is a new device?” below), you will be required to authorise the first send transaction initiated from that new device.
You’ll receive a transaction authorisation link via SMS or push notification.
The link will take you to an authorisation screen, either in the mobile app (if installed) or web browser, where you can review the details before you Authorise or Deny the transaction.
Which transactions require authorisation?
Only the first “send” transaction initiated from a new device (see “What is a new device?” below) will require transaction authorisation.
What is a “send” transaction?
These are transactions whereby you send cryptocurrency to a mobile number, email address or cryptocurrency address.
How will I know a transaction requires authorisation?
During a send transaction, you’ll be shown a screen asking you to click on the SMS or push notification to authorise the transaction.
What is a new device?
New device > Web Browser
When you sign in to Luno from a New Web Browser, the web browser is considered to be a new device. You will be required to authorise the first send transaction from that new browser.
New device > Mobile app
When you sign in to Luno from the Luno mobile app, the mobile app is considered to be a new device. You will be required to authorise the first send transaction from that mobile app.
New device > Mobile sign-in
Every time you sign out of the mobile app and then sign back in, the mobile app is considered to be a new device even if you use the same mobile phone.
How will I receive the authorisation link?
You’ll either receive the authorisation link via SMS or push notification.
If you have the Luno app installed and you’ve been signed in to your Luno account on the app for 7 days or longer, you will receive transaction authorisation links via push notification.
In all other cases, you will receive transaction authorisation links via SMS.
What if I don’t receive the authorisation link?
If you don’t receive the authorisation link, your next actions will depend on the current screen.
SMS sent screen
You have the option to “Call me instead”, where you can authorise the transaction via phone call.
Push notification sent screen
You have the option to “Resend via SMS”. Please wait a moment before resending the link via SMS.
If you clicked the Done button on the “SMS sent” or the “Push notification sent” screen and are on the home screen, you will see an "Authorisation required" card where you can either cancel the transaction or choose “Call me instead.”
For greater reliability, install the mobile app to authorise transactions via push notification instead of SMS. The most reliable channel will be chosen for delivery of your authorisation link at the time of your transaction.
Is it possible to turn this feature off?
No. As this is a security feature it cannot be disabled.
