What is sharding?

Sharding divides a blockchain into smaller sections, called shards, that process transactions in parallel rather than one after another. This can greatly increase how much the network handles at once.

Where it fits

Each shard carries part of the load while remaining part of the same network. Sharding is one of several approaches to the long-running challenge of scaling blockchains.
