As fuel prices rise again, Luno customers in South Africa can pay for fuel with Luno Pay at Engen forecourts and get 15% back in Tether Gold (XAUT).
The offer extends to purchases at Woolworths at Engen and Krispy Kreme at Engen. Luno Pay is built into the Luno app, so customers scan a payment QR code, confirm the details and pay with the crypto in their Luno wallet.

Luno Pay works for three types of purchase at Engen forecourts:

Woolworths at Engen
Krispy Kreme at Engen
Also at Engen: Wimpy accepts Luno Pay through Zapper.
You can use Luno Pay for fuel, groceries and food in a single visit.
How the 15% back offer works
Customers who pay with Luno Pay at an Engen forecourt get 15% of the purchase value back in XAUT on payments of R100 or more. The reward goes to the customer’s Luno wallet.
Luno Pay converts funds at checkout when needed, so customers do not need ZARU in their wallet to pay. A customer with rand in their Luno rand wallet and no ZARU can still pay at checkout, and then Luno Pay will automatically convert the rand to ZARU.
About Tether Gold
Tether Gold (XAUT) is a digital token linked to gold. It was launched by Tether in January 2020, and is issued by TG Commodities Limited, a Tether subsidiary. Each XAUT token represents one troy ounce of physical gold, about 31.1 grams, held on a London Good Delivery bar in a vault in Switzerland.
XAUT divides into small fractions, so customers can hold less than one troy ounce. Tether provides a lookup tool that lets holders check the gold bars behind their tokens.
The price of XAUT follows the price of gold, so it rises and falls with the gold market. Customers can hold XAUT in their Luno wallet alongside the other crypto assets on Luno.
How to get started
Getting started takes five steps:
Download the Luno app and create an account.
Add crypto to the Luno wallet by buying it in the app or depositing it from another wallet.
At an Engen pump or till, open the Luno app, tap More and choose Scan.
Scan the QR code, check the payment details and confirm the payment.
Check the Luno wallet for the XAUT reward.
