What is Ripple and XRP?

Ripple is a US based company. The aim of Ripple is to provide a more efficient means to send cross-border payments in the financial industry, particularly in the banking sector. It aims to do this by reducing costs and transaction times by removing the middleman.

The Ripple network’s xRapid payment service uses the cryptocurrency, XRP which is based on the XRP ledger. XRP is used to facilitate transactions on the Ripple network. Ripple and XRP are often used interchangeably, but technically speaking, Ripple is the payments platform and XRP is a digital asset that operates independently of Ripple. It simply acts as the bridge between different fiat currencies being transferred on the Ripple network. It also acts as a source of liquidity for the network.
