What is a DEX?

A decentralised exchange, or DEX, lets people trade crypto directly from their own wallets using smart contracts, rather than depositing funds with a central operator. Users keep control of their assets throughout the trade.

How it works

Many DEXs use automated pools of assets to set prices and provide liquidity, instead of a traditional order book. This removes a central middleman but shifts responsibility, and risk, onto the user and the underlying code.
