What are makers and takers?
Maker and taker describe two roles in trading. A maker places an order that waits on the order book, adding liquidity, while a taker fills an existing order, removing liquidity.
Why it matters
Exchanges often charge the two roles different fees, sometimes rewarding makers for helping to build a deeper market. Which role you play depends on whether your order is filled immediately.
