What is an ICO?

An Initial Coin Offering, or ICO, is a way for a project to raise funds by selling a new token to the public, often before the product is finished. Buyers hope the token will be useful or valuable later.

Things to keep in mind

ICOs can carry significant risk, as many early projects fail and some have been outright scams. Regulation of token sales has tightened in many places since the ICO boom of 2017.
