Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a naming system for the blockchain that replaces long wallet addresses with simple names ending in .eth, such as alice.eth. It works like a phone book for crypto, so people can send funds to a name instead of a string of letters and numbers, and use one name to link wallets, websites and profiles. ENS launched in 2017 and is run by the ENS DAO. The ENS token was issued in November 2021 through an airdrop to early users, and it gives holders a vote on how the protocol is managed and how its treasury is spent.
