What is a CBDC?
A Central Bank Digital Currency, or CBDC, is a digital version of a country’s official money, issued and backed by its central bank. Unlike most cryptocurrencies, it is centrally controlled.
How it differs from crypto
CBDCs can be aimed at the public for everyday payments, or at banks for settlement between institutions. Many central banks are researching or piloting them as a modern form of national currency.
