What is tokenisation?

Tokenisation is the process of turning rights to an asset, such as property, art or a financial instrument, into a digital token on a blockchain. The token represents ownership or a share of the asset.

Why it matters

This can make traditionally hard-to-trade assets easier to divide, transfer and access. How tokenised assets are treated depends heavily on the provider and local regulation.
