What is circulating supply?

Circulating supply is the number of coins or tokens that are publicly available and actively in circulation. It leaves out coins that are locked, reserved or not yet released.

Why it matters

Along with the current price, circulating supply is used to work out market capitalisation. Comparing it with total and maximum supply shows how many more coins may enter circulation over time.
