Arbitrum (ARB) is the governance token of Arbitrum, a layer 2 network built on top of Ethereum to make transactions cheaper and faster. It uses a technology called optimistic rollups, which bundle many transactions together and post them to Ethereum for security. Developed by Offchain Labs, Arbitrum One launched in 2021 and has become one of the most widely used layer 2 networks, hosting many DeFi and gaming applications. Because Arbitrum is compatible with Ethereum, developers can use the same tools and wallets. ARB was issued in March 2023 and gives holders a vote on proposals made to the Arbitrum DAO, including how its treasury is used.
