Helium (HNT) is a decentralised network that builds wireless connectivity through hardware run by everyday people. Individuals and businesses set up small hotspots that provide coverage for low power Internet of Things devices and, more recently, for mobile phone service. In return, they earn HNT for the coverage and data they provide. Helium launched in 2019 and moved to the Solana blockchain in 2023. The network includes Helium IoT and Helium Mobile, which offers a phone plan powered by community built coverage. HNT is used to pay for network usage, to reward hotspot operators and to take part in governance.
