Celestia (TIA) is a modular blockchain network built to provide data availability for other blockchains. Rather than running everything on one chain, a modular design splits tasks such as execution, settlement and data storage across specialised layers. Celestia handles the data layer, so developers can launch their own rollups and chains more cheaply. Its mainnet launched in October 2023, and it was created by Mustafa Al-Bassam, Ismail Khoffi and John Adler. TIA is used to pay for data fees, to stake and to help secure the network, and holders can take part in governance.
