Berachain (BERA) is a layer 1 blockchain compatible with Ethereum smart contracts and built on the Cosmos SDK. Its main feature is Proof of Liquidity, a consensus model that rewards users who provide liquidity to applications on the network, not only those who stake tokens. This is designed to align validators, developers and users. Berachain's mainnet launched in February 2025. BERA is the native gas token used to pay fees and to stake, while the network's governance and rewards use additional tokens, BGT and HONEY. It is aimed at DeFi applications that need deep liquidity.
