Hedera (HBAR) is a public network that uses hashgraph, a consensus technology that differs from a traditional blockchain. Hashgraph lets the network reach agreement quickly, with high throughput, low fixed fees and strong security. Hedera's mainnet launched in 2019 and the network is governed by a council of large organisations, including Google, IBM, Boeing and LG, which take turns running its nodes. It is used for payments, tokenisation, supply chain tracking and data services. HBAR is the native token, used to pay network fees, to stake and to help secure the network.
