Stellar (XLM) is an open source blockchain network built to move money across borders quickly and cheaply. It was founded in 2014 by Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim, and is supported by the Stellar Development Foundation. Transactions on the network settle in around five seconds and cost a tiny fraction of a cent. Stellar lets institutions and developers issue digital versions of currencies and assets, and it is used for remittances, payments and stablecoins. XLM, also called lumens, is the native asset. It is used to pay network fees and as a bridge between different currencies.
