What is a limit order?

A limit order is an instruction to buy or sell an asset at a set price or better. It only executes if the market reaches your chosen price.

How it compares

This gives you control over the price, but there is no guarantee the order will fill if the market never reaches that level. It contrasts with a market order, which prioritises speed over price.
