THE WEEK IN MARKETS
The Fed hiked last month, and inflation replied by getting worse. September CPI hit 3.7% against a 3.6% forecast, and traders now put the odds of an October hike at 37%, up from 22% a day earlier.
Stocks noticed. Wall Street had its worst day since July on Wednesday, with the Nasdaq down 1.9% as chipmakers fell for a sixth straight session. Even ASML, on record sales, slid almost 4%.
Bitcoin shrugged, near $81,200 and down 0.6% on the week, while Ether lost 4.1%. Brent stayed above $100, and gold barely moved.

Q3 AT LUNO: BUILDING THE PORT

A stablecoin with no exchange has nowhere to trade. An exchange with no bank cannot settle. Luno spent Q3 fitting the pieces together.
ZARU went global in seven weeks. ZARU listed on Luno Global on 5 August and went live on Circle’s Arc and StableFX on 22 September.
Two banks behind the rand. Standard Bank holds the reserves, Absa joined as a banking partner on 8 September, and Sanlam manages reserves on Arc.
Dollars in seconds. The Meridian partnership lets corporate clients mint USDC or USDT from ACH, Fedwire or SWIFT deposits, settling in seconds instead of the usual one to three business days.
A licence in Bermuda. The Bermuda Monetary Authority granted Luno International Ltd a Class F Digital Asset Business licence on 31 August.
Cross border rails, owned. Luno announced the acquisition of GTXN, a licensed collection and payout provider between developed and emerging markets.
Malaysia, same playbook. Luno Malaysia signed an intent to explore a ringgit backed stablecoin for tokenised fund settlement with Halogen Capital and Kenanga Investors. An exploration, not a launch.
The port is not finished, but the cranes have arrived. Read more
THE BIG READ
Crypto adoption doesn’t need a rally
The crypto bull case used to need a story. This one needs a spreadsheet. The argument is not that price goes up. It is that three structural pieces are in place or on the way, and none of them depend on a good month.

The buyers aren’t leaving
US spot Bitcoin ETFs went from about $5.8B in net outflows for 2026 in early July to positive by late September. A record $2.39B week did most of the lifting. Then $680M left in the week to 9 October.
Flows wobble. The channel stays open.
Deutsche Bank plans regulated custody for Bitcoin, Ether and a few stablecoins by year end, pending regulators. A bank founded in 1870 is building the vault anyway.

The plumbing keeps growing
Stablecoin card spending hit a record $1.03B in July, up 200% on the year. Tokenised real world assets grew from about $6B in early 2025 to over $31B by mid 2026.
Neither needed Bitcoin to go up. That is the point.
The part still missing
Liquidity. The Fed raised rates to 3.75% to 4% in September and pencilled in another hike for December. The bull case assumes policy turns eventually. “Eventually” is doing a lot of work, and the market is pricing the opposite for now.
Three assets, three jobs
Bitcoin: the institutional channel. ETF flows and custody both run through it, and it reacts hardest when liquidity returns.
Ether: the settlement layer. Most regulated tokenised issuance and much of the stablecoin plumbing runs on Ethereum.
XRP: the payments bet. Flare’s wrapped XRP qualified as collateral in a $280M lending vault in August, a first for an XRP linked asset. Small, but it is a job.
QUICK TAKES
🎟️ XRP gets a ticker
Evernorth completed its merger and listed on Nasdaq as XRPN, bringing about 473 million XRP and roughly $300 million in cash to the public market. It is the Bitcoin treasury playbook applied to a different token. The shares are not the token, so XRPN holders own a company that owns XRP, plus everything in between. Read more
🏛️ Morgan Stanley sees tokenisation at $10T by 2030
Morgan Stanley’s head of digital asset strategy says tokenised real world assets will reach $3 trillion to $10 trillion by 2030, against a market of roughly $39 billion today. A month ago the bank’s own base case was $2.3 trillion. In the same breath, its tokenised equities launch slipped to the first quarter of 2027. Forecasts scale fast. Launches take longer. Read more
🤖 Anthropic puts a number on it
Anthropic told investors in a closed meeting that Q3 revenue reached $16.8 billion, up from $11.5 billion in Q2, and that it is profitable on an adjusted basis, according to the Financial Times. That is about 46% growth in a single quarter. The company is still aiming for an IPO at a reported $2 trillion valuation, and its public S-1 has yet to appear. Until it does, “adjusted” is the operative word. Read more
