Luno International Ltd has been granted a Class F Digital Asset Business (DAB) licence by the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA). The licence gives Luno a regulated base outside its core markets within Africa and Asia Pacific.
A jurisdiction built for digital assets
Bermuda has positioned itself as one of the more established regulatory environments for digital asset businesses, with a licensing framework built specifically for the sector rather than adapted from traditional financial regulation.
Supporting Luno's institutional and B2B business lines
The licence follows Luno's recent restructure around three focused business lines. It supports the growth of Luno's institutional and B2B offerings, including Crypto as a Service and Global Settlements, and extends Luno's reach to clients beyond its core markets in Africa and Asia Pacific.
As Luno extends its infrastructure to partners globally and scales its ability to settle transactions across borders, a regulated presence in a jurisdiction built for digital assets and modern payment services supports that growth.
What the licence covers
Under the DAB licence, Luno International is able to offer:
OTC trading, spanning crypto, tokenised stocks and commodities, and ZARU, the leading rand-backed stablecoin built for institutional use issued by Luno’s sister company, BlockTower
Global spot markets, with access to Luno's full range of tradeable digital assets
Wallet infrastructure, providing secure custody and transfer of digital assets
A new chapter built on existing trust
For more than 13 years, Luno has focused on regulation and security while building trust with millions of customers. The Bermuda licence marks a further step in that approach, extending the same regulatory standards to a new set of customers and institutions.
Institutional clients can find out more about Luno's approach to OTC trading and settlement through Luno’s OTC Desk.
